NewsXchange 2004: "Some 500 broadcast news professionals are expected to convene on The Algarve, making it the largest truly international broadcast news event of its kind.
This year's event focuses on a wide range of issues, ranging from a look at the 2004 elections (and the just completed US presidential election) to the diversity of Arabic Media. Also, in conjunction with the International News Safety Institute, we will again focus on the most important safety issues faced by journalists today.
To bring a truly international flavour to the event, we will examine 'new' Europe and the role of public service broadcasting and we'll also explore journalistic coverage of humanitarian issues, with a particular focus on the crisis in Darfur. "
